Sorry Jane Austen - I love many of your books - but not this one! I have tried several times, but can never get past the first few chapters.

Jude the Obscure (Clear Print)

Fantastic book - but so depressing! I do love reading Hardy though.

Mansfield Park

Mansfield Park

In my opinion, Jane Austen's best novel. I'd put Pride & Prejudice second.

Northern Lights

Northern Lights

Fantastic fantasy book. Pullman creates an amazing world that is much darker than Harry Potter and Hogwarts. I'm just amazed that children can read such a complex book! Can't wait for the film.

My Sister's Keeper

My Sister's Keeper

A great novel that raises the contemporary issue of designer babies - should siblings be genetically created to provide organs, transplants, etc for termimally-ill children? This book looks at what might happen from the viewpoint of a child created to help her sister.

Unbearable Lightness of Being

Unbearable Lightness of Being

Innovative and brilliant. The first book I ever read (I read it for A Level English) with an author that leaves the narrative at will, to go and take a philosophical look at all kinds of themes. I haven't enjoyed Milan Kundera's other books though.

Flour Babies

Flour Babies

Excellent children's book - funny and poignant. The central character really starts to feel responsible for his flour baby and he learns a surprising amount about the trials of parenthood.
