Cryptonomicon
Neal Stephenson
A panoramic novel of the latter half of the 20th century, ranging from World War II and the breaking of the Enigma code to more recent struggles for control of the Internet. From the author of "Snowcrash".

I love this book. It took me out of my own world and smacked me square into another one. I found it useful to search online references to anything I couldn't understand that I read about. A wonderful book. I found Enoch very mysterious.
I got this book as a christmas present from my nephew. I put it aside and finally read it when I couldn't find anything anything I hadn't read in the house. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I just finished reading it again and still found it a great read.
A rollercoaster of a book spanning several generations of characters. Its a bit geeky, a bit "boys own" but it is rather good.
I'd have to agree with your comment. I may have inadvertently disagreed with it by the little (-) button. Lacking a title on hover in safari I thought perhaps it was a collapse/expand button. Whoops.
