Fight Club
Chuck Palahniuk
Every weekend, in basements and parking lots across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded for as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything.

actually, hang on - I agree with you! Take that back ... HUG HUG HUG HUG!!
the film as made such a huge impact on everyone who has seen it, can't recall a book having that kind of impact since perhaps American fruit loop......think that was the title;-)
I have to disagree. The film is an almost spot on adaptation of the book, with rare exceptions. This has been called the Bible of the Playstation Generation, and while that may be about as pretentious as you can get, I don't think it's terribly far off. The ending in the book is better, and the tone of the film is straight from the book. To say that the film is better could only be because you get to watch fantastic actors like Brad Pitt, Ed Norton and Helena Bonham Carter go to work with an excellent adaptation in hand. It was so good even Jared Leto couldn't screw it up.
Fair point, but i just felt the book was somewhat lacking. It is a rare thing to have a film adaptation that even comes close to the book, so perhaps I was just expecting more from the book when i read it.
Also, perhaps central twist can only have an impact once - and having watched the film before reading the book, I didn't have that moment of surprise from the book itself.
Still its jolly good stuff :)
