Personal Velocity
Rebecca Miller
Rebecca Miller's collection of short stories covers many themes: sexuality, compromise, fate, motherhood, infidelity, being single, wanting to be single, age, class, desperation and an overriding will to survive.

Personal Velocity, seven women, seven short stories. When I opened the cover and saw the format, I was expecting something far more predictable, far more in the mode of the modern American short story, but Miller manages to take all the stories in unforeseen directions without getting tricksy and annoying. She’s Arthur Miller’s daughter, but I didn’t know that until long after finishing the book.
