English Passengers
Matthew Kneale
This novel tells two parallel stories: one of three eccentric Englishmen who set sail for Tasmania to find the garden of Eden; the other of a young Tasmanian aborigine and his tribe, struggling against the invading British, who prove as lethal in their good intentions as in their cruelty.

I did enjoy this novel because the writing is so good. Highly, highly recommended.
Unrelentingly gloomy but a story that needs to be told. The hunting of the aboriginal people of Tasmania as if they were 'sport' is so horrific that we need to know it. There are none left. This is a book that you need to read but you may not enjoy it.
