On the Road
Jack Kerouac
Describes the wanderings across America, casual friendships, labours, and affairs of Sal Paradise, a young writer, and his friend and hero, Dean Moriarty. Episodic, fast-moving, unstructured, it produced a mythology of its own and many imitators.

Its the classic teenager drop out and enjoy story - what can you say about it that hasn't been said before.
It is indeed - Ken Kesey is the main man. I'm not sure if he was with them though. They recreated the bus for a Channel 4 doc. and toured around the UK. They happened to be pulled up by the roadside and I spotted Alan Hayling alongside them. He happens to be a very old pal of mine so I pulled over to say 'hi'. He then said 'guess who's in the bus?' and told me it was the Merry Pranksters. I stepped inside to say hello them all but they were not very communicative and just looked rather sour and worn out. It's often best not to meet your heroes.
Did you really meet the merry pranksters! Thats ken casey & co isn't it?
You could say that it set a trend for millions of hippies to head off down the road for the next 30 years. I met the Merry Pranksters on the road in Cornwall a few years back as they did a reunion tour of the UK. They didn't look up to much these days.
