Hey Nostradamus!
Douglas Coupland
Jason's pregnant girlfriend Cheryl died in their Vancouver school cafeteria ten years ago in a hail of bullets. Without support from his family, Jason moves between black-outs and clear memories of that day with frightening ease.

Yeah, I loved this book. What I like about Coupland, and doesn't get seem to get mentioned, is that he is a brilliant story teller. His stories can be completely surprising. How, for example, in Eleanor Rigby, the main character arrives in an airport, looking for her long lost lover, and starts off a major terrorist incident as she has picked up some radioactive material. Or how in All Families are Psychotic morphs into this brilliant chase novel involving Diana's son's last letter to her. No doubt Coupland has been an influence on me. (Although I wasn't that struck on the last one JPod.)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was the first Coupland I picked up. The characters are terribly human, the story is told in an interesting way, and it definitely has its moments of "what on earth is coming next?". I've heard from other Coupland fans that this isn't a standard kind of book from him, but whether that's a good thing or a bad things is up for debate.
What makes the story better for me is the structure, the method of the storytelling. That's where Coupland really excels, where he draws you in and makes you think about the bigger story at work.
Let me know what you think.
I've read most of couplands stuff but this seems to have passed me by - is it any good?
