Time Traveler's Wife
Audrey Niffenegger
This is the story of Henry and Clare, who have known each other since Clare was 6 and Henry was 36 and were married when Clare was 20 and Henry 28. This is possible only because Henry is the first person diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets.

I loved this book. I did have problems at first with the timeline, but like others just ignored it for the most part. The eternal love is what captured me.
I think the best way into this novel is to drift though the first 40-50 pages without worrying about the "time line" aspect. Then gradually, as you read further, the segments start to click into place. Just enjoy the developing relationship in fragments. I read it about 18 months ago and I think it's time for me to re-read it now.
I really enjoyed this - but only when I entirely gave up on trying to sort out the order in which things happened according to the dates on sections. Then it was fine! I'm grateful to the friend who'd read it and suggested ignoring the dates (except in the most general way.)
I too had high hopes for this book but was disappointed by the time I'd struggled to the end of it. I know lots of people who love this book but I just found it dull.
I'm going to finally admit defeat, it just didn't inspire me to finish it!
This is one of my very favorites, but I can understand your defeat. Several people I know hated it, said it played with their head. I guess it's just not for everyone, but for those who get into it, it is wonderful in so many ways.
A great read - far and away the best interpretation of the bizarre causality of time travel and a touching human story to boot.
I loved this book and have now read it twice. The second reading was even better! I loved the way Henry & Clare loved each other. It's really a beautiful illustration of eternal love, both backward & forward through time. Now I can pick it up and open it anywhere and just enjoy since the timeline isn't crucial. However, it is called the Time Traveler's WIFE because the book is chronological for her; he just jumps all over time.
I've been "reading" this for about a month now, I keep drifting off to other books and then coming back to it ... Not sure why, as I'm quite enjoying it - its just not keeping my attention!
You need to stick with, it only starts to get really good towards the end. Also, it can be a bit difficult to follow as it jumps around a lot, perhaps you're struggling to keep up?
TTW is a love story for the ages--proof that even in science fiction, all relationships have essentially the same problems :)
I thought this book was incredibly well written, poignant and very upsetting - but all in a good way. I loved it.
I had high hopes for this book as it came very highly recommended. I wasn't disappointed, though it did take me a while to get into the story line. It's one of those books that you have to really pay attention to otherwise you just get lost and confused (I guess this could just be me). The effort paid off and I was in floods of tears by the end (bit embarassing when you're on the train).
I thought this book was mis-spelt until I realised the title is actually the American spelling! grrrr!
