Posted by Anne Summerfield (30 weeks ago ) If you love short stories - and I do - then this is a masterclass in what they can do. Economical, powerful, unforgettable. I especially like the fact that Carver often wrote the blue collar workers, the ordinary people of the US rather than the rich, powerful or educated. Not every story is a gem - but many are!

Shame the author looks like Jeremy Clarkson on the cover.
