To Kill a Mockingbird
Harper Lee
Set in a sleepy town in South Alabama during the Great Depression in the 1930s, this is a multi-layered story which dissects the white and black communities of the American South. Told with gentle humour, it focuses on religious turpitude and the ambivalence of adult morality.

I didn't read this book at school, but read it after because so many people had, I must say I was disappionted with it, mostly because I'd heard so much about it I expected it to really reach me, but still a good book.
And if it wasn't for the book we would never have had the boo radleys' cheesy summertime pop songs :)
I agree - totally brilliant (and I did read it at school, the wonders of education!). Harper Lee's only novel as well, makes you wonder what could have been...
A brilliant book that everyone should have read at school.
