Always Coming Home
Ursula K.Le Guin
An "ethnographic" novel that portrays life in California's Napa Valley as it might be a very long time from now, imagined not as a high tech future but as a time of people once again living close to the land.

this is a really nice novel in the form of an ethnography of a future (post-apocalyptic, fairly utopian) culture. interspersed with the story are bits of literature like poems and plays attributed to the culture, which is an interesting format. it's an interesting and well crafted read, and the culture described sounds pretty great to me.
