Our Island Story
H.E. Marshall
A children's history of Britain from the Romans to the death of Queen Victoria. This narrative sets out the history of Britain and includes 31 of the original, colour illustrations.

This history of Britain was written for children a century ago, but it is still both charming and stangely compelling today. It's quite a big and surprisingly weighty book with each episode chosen by the author - such as the Norman conquest, the signing of the Magna Carta, the Civil War, running to about half a dozen pages each. The narration and selection of facts throughout is fascinating; each is a mini-masterpiece. Although moral perspectives have obviously changed since 1905, the judgments and analysis are still relevant and challenging today.
