Stand
Stephen King
A man crashes his car into a petrol station bringing with him the foul corpses of his wife and daughter. Before long the plague that killed them spreads across America and the world. It is a long time before a few stunned survivors emerge, slowly and painfully, to build a new world.

I loved this book. Very lengthy but I got through it quite quickly. Also loved it when they made it into a film.
This is my favourite King book exactly becouse of its length and the little epizodes it is built of. Though Randall Flagg is not my favourite bad guy, it does not matter, for - at least for me - the plague with the more than 99% mortality is much more frightful than any bad guys could ever be.
Very lengthy book but well worth the time. The characters and the storyline are suberb.
Stephen King may not be a master of solid, satisfying endings but he's definitely a virtuoso of creating entire new worlds and leading you there by the throat. 'The Stand' is one of his better efforts.
A must read. Characters you'll remember forever. Epic story of good vs evil. Stephen King's best.
