Alternatives to Sex
Stephen McCauley
A novel that chronicles life in post-traumatic, morally ambiguous America, where the heartfelt desire to do good, is constantly tripped up by the need to feel good.

Very difficult to connect with. None of the characters are particuarly friendly (noone I would want to go for a drink with) and I couldn't really get involved with the story. Every three chapters it seems, the author has to drop in a big '9/11' reminder, as if we were not aware that the events happened and people in America were in shock. The odd funny line but not enough for my liking.
