Bridget Pugh examines persuasion in Jane Austen's books, and Bill Hutchings explores silence and communication in her novel Persuasion. A newcomer is Gavin Turner, a well-known writer and lecturer. His illustrated presentation provides a context to the other two talks by focusing on the city of Bath, an urban environment which featured in Jane Austen's life as well as her writings.
