Magic Faraway Tree
Enid Blyton
Dick anticipates a dull time in the country with his friends - that is until he finds the magic faraway tree. All they have to do is climb through the cloud at the top of the tree, and who knows what fantasy land they might find themselves in?

Yeah, I loved this too. What a great idea, that differant lands would appear at the top of a tree. And the characters living in the tree were brilliant as well - Moonface, Saucepanman.
I also loved the similar 'Wishing Chair' books.
I grew up on Enid Blyton and, in spite of her critics, think that she helped form the imagination and moral codes of many children. I am a writer and artist and still go back to the Magic Tree after almost 50 years!
Books like this were what made me enjoy reading to my daughter so much, before she could read for herself. It was a chance for me to re-visit my childhood. I always used to cry at the end of Peter Pan when Wendy told Peter she couldn't fly any more because she was too grown-up :"0
One of the favourite books of my childhood. Blissful escapism, with both humour and scariness. And I still wonder what's at the top of trees!
