Prayer for Owen Meany
John Irving
From the author of "The World According to Garp", "The Hotel New Hampshire" and "The Cider House Rules", this novel tells the tale of two 11-year-old boys in New Hampshire. When accidentally one kills the mother of the other, events move to a tragic conclusion.

I thought the writing was great, but for some reason the story just didn't catch with me. There was a couple spots I thought it could have ended, and it would have been fine with me, but it kept going on and on (so I only rated it a 4). I did see the movie Simon Birch and I liked it a little better than the book. However, the movie only touched on spots of the book. Most people I've talked to liked this book (and love John Irving), So I guess I'm just the odd man out this time. I am planning on reading some of his other books.
I am a huge fan of John Irving and this is my favorite of his books. In some of his books (for example, 158 Pond Marriage) you really don't care about, or even like, the characters. In Owen Meany you become attached to the characters. I haven't seen the movie Simon Birch, but I am curious to how it follows this novel.
WOW! This was a wonderful read. Great characterization as well as story and enlightenment. Highly recommended.
