i loved it. A lot of human emotion put into this story, it had me hooked from cover to cover.

Remarkable for its time, but now primarily a curiosity, IMO. I enjoyed encountering the "real" story behind all the B-movies and modern interpretations, but found it overall to be sensationally melodramatic and it telegraphed the ending so blatantly that everyone (except, it seems, the protagonist) would see it coming.
