Brother, What Strange Place is This?
Tom Saunders
This is Tom Saunders' first short story collection. From the pagan brutalities of a Welsh island at the time of the Armada in The Seal Man to the quest for redemption of an English jazz pianist in modern day Cuba in The Calle de Obra Pia, the stories explore the complexities of history and art and the twists and turns of the human journey.

Unjustly neglected by all and sundry and about to go out of print. The author is too poor to afford a garrett to starve in.
I like to think of myself as an aspiring writer. Tom's collection depressed me immensely: he's clever, well-read - and the bugger can write!
I'm not supporting it because I feel that I 'ought' to do so - I'm supporting the book because it's very good indeed. I do earnestly suggest that you all get hold of a copy!
I'm glad to see this book mentioned. It's easily the favourite short story collection that I have on my shelf. Looking forward to reading many of the stories again.
I love Tom's book of short stories. It's a wonderful collection - original, thought provoking and very well written. If you don't have a copy then you can order it through the ABCtales front page or from Amazon. It's very well worth the read.
