Shawshank Redemption
Stephen King
A Stephen King novel telling of unfair imprisonment and escape.

I read this long before seeing the excellent film. I recently had a discussion with a friend in which I claimed that the "Salvation lies within" line - in reference to the chisel in the hollowed-out bible - was invented for the film and wasn't in the book. Immediately afterwards I wondered if I was right.
I don't suppose you could settle this for me, Twonine? Was I right?
I'd seen the film and thought it would spoil my enjoyment of the book, but it didn't - excellent stuff.
Most King fans I've spoken to laud his horror over any other genre writing he has produced. However, I ejoyed Shawshank because it is the only work I have read in which there isn't some form of author-insertion.
It's short, more of a novella than a novel, but it is crisp, clean and enjoyable.
