Revolutionary Road
Richard Yates
Frank and April Wheeler, a bright, beautiful and talented couple, are desperate to maintain their dreams of greatness and distinction against the inexorable pressure of their suburban life.

Revolutionary Road is another one of those “forgotten American classics,” except this time the publicity is absolutely true. It’s a bleak but psychologically convincing novel about, amongst other things, the modern marriage and the changing perceptions of self. Not very original, you might say, but Yates was there first and no-one, not Cheever or Updike, has done it better.
