Nigel Slater's Real Food
Nigel Slater
Accompanying an eight-part TV series on Channel 4, this cookery book includes all the recipes shown, plus many more. Slater's unpretentious style means that he finds good things to make using mass-produced white bread and standard English confectionery, as well as the finest Italian loaves.

I just love Nigel Slater's books. They're half cookbook and half very good read. Every man I meet who's seriously into cooking loves them too - but I don't find women connect with him in the same way. He has that passion for food - and the skill to communicate it - that puts him way out front. Thankyou, Nigel - we eat better because of you!
I heard Nigel on Desert Island Discs about a year ago maybe longer and he was articulate witty funny amusing - in that sense he has no problem communicating with women - I was bit shocked at how expensive his kitchen was but would you expect and I personally wouldn't want to be woken up to monks chanting
