Planet of the Apes
Pierre Boulle
They christened the planet Soror. They landed without a jolt - three men and a pet monkey. They were pleased to see that life existed. But humans here were nothing but naked animals. The master race were apes. Apes that dressed like men and hunted humans for their sport.

Pierre Boulle's scifi parable remains one of the best reads in the genre. Thanks to the success of the movie versions, probably everybody now knows the twist at the end, but Boulle's power to shock and be thought provoking remains undiminished. It's a great story, brilliantly told, and throroughly entertaining.
