Beloved
Toni Morrison
A collection of short stories, demonstrating Tabucchi's themes of ambiguities and twists of fate - the treacherous memory, the hidden intent, the useless remorse, the "little misunderstandings" that can change a life and subtly alter perception.

Neilsen's Book Data has clearly sprung a leak on this one - we will alert them. I did enjoy this book although I found the 'other worldliness' a tad difficult to take at times. It was as if it was being used to divert the writer from the hardships imposed upon her by her poverty - much as religion was used for most of the 20th century in Europe - and that was something that I found it difficult to applaud.
Like Liana, I'm not sure I'd agree with the write-up. Rememory and treachery sure enough, but it's no more a series of short stories than any other novel is.
Deep, dangerous and utterly remarkable. This should be read. Not everyone will like it, but it should be read in any case.
i rather love this book... though i didnt recognise it from the brief write up above of course...
