Henderson the Rain King
Saul Bellow
Henderson has come to Africa on a spiritual safari, a quest for "the truth." His feats of strength, his passion for life, and, most importantly, his inadvertant "success" in bringing rain have made him a god-like figure among the tribes.

A classic. Bellow is most enjoyable with regards to the way he can turn a sentence on it's head. For example, you might be reading a sentence that seems very pedestrian and then at the very end he makes the whole ting ridiculous and funny. The ending, well, the last 10 or so pages is beautiful. It made me almost cry in the Lisbon airport. Probably the most emotional thing to ever happen in that incredibly boring place. Certainly to me.
