Blindness
Giovanni Pontiero
A city is hit by an epidemic of sudden blindness. The authorities segregate the newly-blind and all who have come into contact with them. It is not long before the criminal element take over, the compound is set on fire and the blind escape - only to find a deserted, looted city.

a terrific achievment in writing. this book is intense, moving, meaningfull on different levels, human, inhumane, clean and foul. I experienced real pain while reading it and at the same time i cuold not put it aside. The mistake of the author listing in this website should be quickly corrected - it's an insult to any bookworm, however low.
I found this book Very interesting, but it's a little intense in places. I thought it was very well done. I can see why Jose Saramago won the nobel prize for literature. I would recommend this book to anyone that would like an intense look at humanity at it's worse and it's best. However I'm not sure why it's listed under Giovanni Pontiero.
I think Pontiero is the translator?? (Not sure.) But it should be changed to Saramago - no wonder I couldn't find it last week!
Overall, I loved Blindness (much more than The Cave, which I tried after this one.)
It was definitely intense in places -- definitely disturbing, but really eye-opening. I wasn't even bothered by the lack of paragraphs. I recommend to everyone; just be warned it's a little brutal in places.
