Posted by Qzer (1 year ago ) Cunningham has himself a clever gimmick, with his multi-generic, synchronic,intimate narratives that are refracted through the prism of a single author's works. In THE HOURS, the author was Virginia Woolf. Here, with Walt Whitman as his focus, Cunningham is even better. The three novellas in SPECIMEN DAYS are compact, resonant, and inventive, layered with concatenation, built upon each other like pearls. Haunting, masterfully written, and highly recommended.
